MOL Holding Internal Sessions on Vessel Safety

March 13, 2007

TOKYO - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, President: Akimitsu Ashida) today announced that the company implements in-house sessions called "Safe Ship Operation: Learning from Incidents." This is part of a company-wide effort to reinforce safe operation management systems, aimed at preventing the reoccurrence of serious incidents last year.

In six sessions having started yesterday and wrapping up at the end of this month, the company will focus on safety lessons learned from those incidents. The goal is to cultivate an environment that encourages a coordinated approach to improving safety.

A captain and chief engineer with extensive marine experience present the workshops, which mainly target shore-based young employees involved in ship operation. The lecturers explain the background and causes of various incidents and near-miss cases, and help employees in charge of practical operations recognize risks and decide what to do, and what not to do.

MOL believes it is essential to review safe operation from different viewpoints. The company plans to implement in-house safety sessions from various perspectives.

MOL continues to operate vessels safely and protect the environment, set forth in the Group Corporate Principles as the company's highest social responsibility. It will initiate various activities to promote awareness of safety among managements and employees.
