MOL Safe Operation Campaign Under Way

TOKYO - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, President: Akimitsu Ashida) yesterday launched a safe operation campaign for all MOL-operated vessels. Called the “MOL Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Promotion Campaign 2009,” it focuses on safety and health management of seafarers, based on analysis injuries and illnesses that occurred during onboard operation last year.

The campaign will promote an active exchange of opinions between vessels and land-based personnel to share information and alerts concerning the causes of various injuries and illness. The goal is to further reinforce MOL's efforts to ensure safe operation of its worldwide fleet.

One month from April 1 to 30, 2009

2. Implementation guidelines

  • MOL officers and staff from concerned business sections will visit target vessels to promote mutual understanding among seafarers and shore staff and raise awareness of safety issues.

    • Target vessels:
      MOL-owned vessels, chartered vessels, and MOL Group vessels including ferries and a cruise ship
  • Provide wake-up calls on causes and countermeasures for injuries and illnesses that occurred most frequently last year. The alerts will be distributed weekly to every vessel.
  • Provide safety stickers to be posted onboard vessels to help prevent accidents.
  • Gather opinions and ideas from seafarers about safety and health management and share this information concerned divisions and sections as needed to enhance safety and health management.
