MOL Steps up to Help Typhoon Victims in Luzon

October 06, 2009

TOKYO - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, President: Akimitsu Ashida) today announced a donation of US$40,000, to relief efforts for the victims of Typhoon Typhoon "Ketsana" that is called as "Ondoy" in the Philippines, which struck the Philippines at the end of September. The company expressed its heartfelt sympathy to the disaster victims, and hope they can return to normal life as soon as possible.

MOL is making the donation through a group company, Manila-based Magsaysay-Mitsui O.S.K. Marine, Inc., which provides recruitment and training of seafarers. The company has already started relief flights in the region, and is considering other relief activities.

MOL and the Philippines have a long and deep relationship, and the company employs many Filipino mariners aboard its ships. MOL also operates the seafarer training company MOL Maritime Training Corporation in the Philippines.

In response to requests by the Government of the Philippines, our training ship Sprit of MOL transported aid supplies to the Philippines when a typhoon wreaked havoc there in June 2008. Thus, MOL has contributed in many ways to the support of victims in the Philippines.
