TOKYO - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) today announced that its local partner, Magsaysay MOL Marine, Inc. (MMM)(*) held a charity event on November 16, with participation of its Filipino seafarers and their families, to support the people afflicted by the recent typhoon that devastated the central Philippines.

The event was held in a gymnasium in Manila, and about 2,000 seafarers, their families, and others took part the event. On hand for the event from MOL were MOL Chairman Akimitsu Ashida and Executive Officer Takaaki Inoue, and from A. Magsaysay, Inc. President Doris Magsaysay Ho and Chairman Eduardo U. Manese.

MOL Chairman Ashida expressed heartfelt sympathy to those afflicted by the typhoon, which devastated the central Philippines, and introduced MOL Group's relief efforts (US$30,000 donation, free transport of relief supplies by containerships, and so on), and the group's commitment to continuing support in the future. He also expressed his appreciation for daily contribution of seafarers' families and their work to assist relief efforts in the typhoon-stricken area.

MOL, with participating seafarers and their families, wished for safety of afflicted people and swift reconstruction. Then all their families committed to forming a single unit to support relief efforts. Some participating seafarers' families said, "News videos of afflicting areas made me shed rivers of tears," and "I want to donate blankets and children's clothes as well as making a monetary donation."

MOL has strived to care for its seafarers' families at home, with activities such as family gatherings in the Philippines and other major countries where the seafarers are from. This time the family gathering was already scheduled, but the event program was quickly changed because of the typhoon disaster.

MOL continues programs to deepen ties of its seafarers' families and contributes to communities through various kinds of events.

The MOL Group hopes the people afflicted by the typhoon will be able to return to normal life as soon as possible, and pledges a range of ongoing measures to support relief efforts.
