TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Junichiro Ikeda) today announced that it provided voluntary ocean transport of secondhand school backpacks donated by community service organization Atsumi Rotary Club (*) (Representatives: Masayoshi Miura; Headquarters: Tahara-shi, Aichi Prefecture) for Bumrungrad wittayakom School in Bangkok.

The containership with the load of 104 school backpacks left the Port of Nagoya on May 9 and arrived at Laem Chabang Port on May 17. On May 26, a presentation ceremony was held at the school. Atsumi Rotary Club participated in it, leaving comments, "Till now, the students have suffered from carrying heavy and big cloth tote bags, filled with textbooks. However, they have become full of smiles obtaining the backpacks instead."

MOL takes a proactive stance in social contribution activities that are unique to an ocean transport company with a global network.

(*) The community service organization Atsumi Rotary Club was founded in 1969. It has contributed to vitalization of the community by sponsoring the Nanohana (field mustard)/Sakura (cherry blossom) Festival in the former Atsumi town. In 2014, it established a scholarship program at Bumrungrad wittayakom School in Bangkok as an international effort to support disadvantaged students.
