MOL Methanol Carrier Rescues Castaway
- One survivor rescued in Caribbean Sea -

TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Junichiro Ikeda) today announced that the MOL- operated methanol carrier, the SAN FERNANDO, safely rescued a crewman in the Caribbean Sea (about 140km southeast of the Cayman Islands) on October 30, 2017.

Details of the rescue are as follows:

  • At 17:40 on October 30 (local time), the SAN FERNANDO received a distress message through the VHF from the boat in distress, while underway to Geismar in the United States from the port of Point Lisas in Trinidad and Tobago, and rushed to the location of the distress call.
  • At 19:40 on October 30, one survivor was safely rescued.
  • At 10:05 on October 31, the survivor was handed over to the local authorities in George Town, Cayman Islands.
