MOL to Open New Office in Muscat, Oman
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) opened its new
office (General Manager: Nobuhiro TAKEGUCHI
) in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate
of Oman on April 22, 2002.
MOL co-owns a LNG carrier S/S "LAKSHMI"
with The Government of the Sultanate of Oman
("GOSO") and The Shipping Corporation
of India Limited, and will co-own with GOSO
and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. another newly
built LNG carrier to be delivered in 2004
by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., Japan.
The new office provides shipmanagement and
operation services for the above two LNG
carriers and as well to contribute to the
development of the shipping industries in
the Sultanate of Oman through the activity
of new office in Muscat.
MOL is a worldwide leader in the safe, reliable
transport of LNG, with experience dating
back to 1983, when it launched a project
to supply customers in Japan with gas from
Indonesia. Since then, the company has steadily
increased its involvement in the LNG trade,
as is now involved in 20 transport projects.
MOL is involved in the ownership or operation
of about 50 LNG carriers worldwide, including
several under construction. MOL expects considerable
growth in the transport of LNG, which is
an environmentally friendly source of energy.
