MOL Announces New Names for Liner Division Star-Net Companies

TOKYO - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, President: Akimitsu Ashida) today announced that the MOL Group's Liner Division information service companies, Star-Net America and Star-Net Asia, will be renamed in conjunction with an expansion of their business activities.

Both companies are critical to the MOL Liner Division, developing information system services through operation of the Starnet System, which unifies management of container cargo information.

    MOL Information Technology America Inc. (MOL-IT America) (Head Office: New Jersey)
    (Former name: Star-Net America, Inc.)
    MOL Information Technology Asia Ltd. (MOL-IT Asia) (Head Office: Hong Kong)
    (Former name: Star-Net Asia Limited)
    At the same time, branch names of Star-Net Asia Limited will be changed as follows:
    MOL Information Technology Asia Ltd. Kolkata Branch (MOL-IT India)
    (Former name: Star-Net Asia Limited Kolkata Branch)
    MOL Information Technology Asia Ltd. Europe Branch (MOL-IT Europe)
    (Former name: Star-Net Asia Limited Europe Branch)
  • Effective date
    June 15, 2006 (planned) (depending on registration procedures in each country)
  • Background
    Both Star-Net America and Star-Net Asia were established mainly to develop and operate the Starnet System, which is the key operation system for MOL Liner Division activities in North America and Asia. Since then, Starnet System has been implemented globally and their operations have expanded in step with the needs of MOL's worldwide container services. The companies also provide IT support services to MOL Liner Division agencies in the world.
    In order to match their current expanded operations, they will change the name Star-Net, to MOL Information Technology, to clarify both companies' position as information service providers for MOL Group liner operations. The move will also boost awareness among MOL Group employees about the companies' vital mission, and help attract new business.
