Supporting the publication of "Wakashio the Book" and holding a ceremony

On August 10, 2021, a launch ceremony for the English-language edition of Wakashio the Book, a children's book by Ms. Anita Bacha, an author living in Mauritius, was held at the office of MOL (Mauritius) Ltd. Ms. Bacha, His Excellency Mr. Shuichiro Kawaguchi, the Ambassador of Japan to Mauritius, and Mr. Goro Yamashita, the Managing Director of MOL (Mauritius) Ltd. were on hand for the event.

Wakashio the Book was produced to hand down the story of the Wakashio grounding and oil spill incident to children. Ms. Bacha wrote this book to deliver a positive, encouraging message to youngsters, encourage them to read books, and share her thoughts on the villages and residents along the south-eastern coast of the island, including Mahebourg, that were affected by the incident.

The book was originally published in French last year and was warmly received. Bacha had many requests from people who wanted to read the English-language version of the book, and she started looking for a publishing company that could handle the task. In response, MOL volunteered to support the project, in a show of respect for her efforts on residents, especially children affected by the incident. MOL agreed to fund the publication of 1,000 copies of the English edition and distribute 250 copies to schools in Mahebourg as a part of our efforts to support the education of young people in Mauritius.

MOL will continue meaningful activities for local communities, especially children in Mauritius.
