MOL Charitable Trust Visits VMCA Projects in St Félix and Beauchamp

MOL Charitable Trust (the "Trust") (Note 1) conducted field visits to Voluntary Marine Conservation Area (VMCA) project sites in St Félix and Beauchamp, where marine conservation initiatives supported by the Trust are being implemented by the local NGO Coral Garden Conservation (Note 2).

At St Félix, the delegation reviewed projects supported under CFP3 and CFP4, which focus on monitoring and protecting the marine ecosystem through coral restoration and community engagement with local fishermen. As part of these projects, coral fragments have been transplanted onto restoration structures installed on the reef to support the recovery of degraded coral habitats.

The team also visited the Beauchamp lagoon, where a CFP5 project aimed at establishing a community-managed VMCA is being implemented. The project has completed mapping of a 4.2-hectare area of the lagoon as well as an initial ecosystem survey, and is now entering its reporting phase.

Through the Trust, MOL continues to support initiatives that contribute to the preservation of Mauritius'marine biodiversity and the sustainable development of local communities.
