BLUE ACTION 007 Support for Mauritius The ocean: connecting people,
connecting to the future.

Aug 17, 2023

The Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Group's support to Mauritius began in the wake of the 2020 incident. MOL Group established the MOL Mauritius International Fund for Natural Environment Recovery and Sustainability, as well as the MOL Charitable Trust. Through these funds, we have been supporting the local community.

In carrying out this work, our emphasis is on helping Mauritius to take the action that will shape its future. In education, for example, we support an NGO-run school in Mahebourg, southeastern region of Mauritius. The school has classrooms and a gymnasium built by connecting used shipping containers, where around 50 students are studying academics and learning skills in subjects such as language, music, and IT. We have furthermore decided to provide financial assistance to establish a new day-care center, a project that includes support for school supplies, daily breakfasts and lunches, and transportation there and back for the vulnerable kids of the region.

Another important thing is for us at MOL to grow sustainably with Mauritius through our business activities. This is because we believe that this is the only way to provide sustainable support in the true sense of the word. For example, in the tourism industry, MOL has organized cruises to Mauritius on the Nippon Maru. And in the renewable energy business, we are moving forward with surveys toward the introduction of ocean thermal energy conversion.

MOL aims to be a social infrastructure group centered on marine transport, connecting with the ocean, connecting people, and leading our world to the next generation. As friends of Mauritius, we will continue to build the future together.

BLUE ACTION MOL

The sea occupies 71.1% of the earth's surface.
It connects countries around the globe and has given rise
to economic activities that have become
the foundation of humankind's development.
The earth's very potential lies in its oceans.
Our home is indeed an "ocean planet."
If you look at the world from an ocean perspective,
you can see a completely different future.
As a company that has always moved forward with the sea,
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) believe its potential more than anyone.
As a Group, our mission is to draw forth this immense value
shared by humankind and create sustainable growth for societies.
Now is the time for us to think and act outside the box.
MOL will utilize the knowledge we have gained through shipping
to expand the field to social infrastructure companies that originate from the oceans.
When opportunity presents itself, we should take full advantage of it.
Let's build new hope for tomorrow, together.
