Holding online event for MOL Group company executives and employees in Japan and overseas to memorialize the Wakashio incident

On Monday, August 1, 2022, and Friday, August 5, 2022, MOL held an online event called "Wakashio Memorial Day" for MOL Group executives and employees in Japan and overseas, respectively, to reflect on MOL's response to the two-year milestone from the grounding and oil spill incident involving the MOL-chartered bulk carrier Wakashio off Mauritius on July 25, 2020. The purpose of the event was to reaffirm the awareness of the group's executives and employees regarding the prevention of any recurrence of such incidents and to reflect on MOL's supports related to Mauritius. At the event, "MOL for Mauritius," website featuring its activities regarding Mauritius, was introduced, and showed the documentary video "Mauritius Blue/Nou Avec Zot - We are with you," which summarizes its activities for Mauritius after July 2020. It also introduced the authorized public trust "MOL Mauritius International Fund for Natural Environment Recovery and Sustainability" (Note 1), established in Japan on November 30, 2021, and FY2021 grant recipients, along with a detailed look at their activities. An employee assigned to an MOL subsidiary in Mauritius, MOL (Mauritius) Ltd., and continues to implement these activities, also reported on the efforts of the MOL Charitable Trust (Note 2) established by MOL in Mauritius.

President and CEO Takeshi Hashimoto emphasized to the participating executives and employees that the incident served as an opportunity to review the safety management system and push initiatives related to environmental protection and biodiversity into full swing, and said that reflection on the incident and comprehensive efforts to prevent recurrence led to establishment of the "MOL Sustainability Plan" (Note 3), announced in April 2022.

MOL will step up its commitment to ensure safe operation and carry forward initiatives on environmental recovery and sustainability, without allowing the Wakashio incident to fade from memory.
