Cleanup Event in Nature Conservation Areas

On Thursday, June 8, MOL (Mauritius) Ltd. participated in a cleanup event held in conjunction with World Oceans Day. This event was hosted by the EcoMode Society (Note 1), a local NGO and grant recipient from MOL Mauritius International Fund for Natural Environment Recovery and Sustainability (Note 2) in last fiscal year, and took place at Ferney Bridge in the southeastern coastal district with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of the marine environment.
About 20 people, including MOL (Mauritius) Ltd. employees, local fishermen, fishing boat crews, and residents, turned out for the event and collected a large amount of plastic waste, over 60 garbage bags filled to 110 liters. After the cleanup work, participants including Mr. Kazuhiko Sugano, Managing Director of MOL(Mauritius) Ltd., planted symbolic young trees to commemorate the day's activities.
MOL (Mauritius) Ltd. sponsored the event, including providing tools for cleanup activities.
MOL will continue to support the conservation of the natural environment and the development of local communities in Mauritius through active participation in cleanup projects and other social contribution activities.

EcoMode Society is a Mauritius-based group established as gathering of volunteers in 2012. It began full-scale activities as an NGO in 2016.The group focuses mainly on ocean environmental protection such as beach cleanup and coral farming.

Volunteers cleared not only plastic debris, but also many tires and other large pieces of trash.
