Various resources including iron ore, coal, and grain, are key to people's daily
lives and to the world economy. Japan has always relied heavily on imports for
these raw materials, and today's economic growth and enhanced international division
of labor make global shipping more active than ever.
MOL operates the world's largest fleet of bulk carriers, offering stable, mass-volume
transport of dry bulk cargo. We meet various customer needs with a range of specialized
carriers designed and constructed for each cargo's characteristics and conditions
at loading/unloading ports. These vessels include iron ore carriers that have
become successively larger, coal carriers tailored to the needs of specific ports,
and wood chip carriers that transport lightweight, high-volume shipments to the
worldwide paper industry. With bulk carriers of all sizes, we have the flexibility
to meet different customer needs and provide top-quality service. We also operate
heavy lifters that carry massive cargo such as large-size machinery and plant
equipment that are indispensable for industrial growth and cannot be moved on
conventional vessels. |

| To achieve optimum transport needs |
Demand for transport of iron ore and coal grows every
year as steel product's demand increases around the world, particularly in
China. We recently launched the world's largest iron ore carrier (300,000
deadweight tons). And we lead the field in the number of iron ore carriers,
aiming to have 150 vessels in service by the end of March 2010.
In response
to the expansion of the Panama Canal, we plan to introduce a new class
of bulk carrier called the "Handy-Cape type." It is larger
than those that currently use the canal, and give us the versatility to
serve ports all over the world.
MOL's bulk carriers always evolve to meet various customer transport needs, with higher quality transport service, from anywhere to everywhere. |
