MOL to Introduce New Onboard Training and Evaluation System

April 27, 2007

TOKYO - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL, President: Akimitsu Ashida) today announced the decision to introduce a Computer Based Training (CBT) System including the capability of electronically filing training history and review performance of seafarers onboard MOL-operated vessels. The data will be accessible to the MOL Group's worldwide network.

MOL is currently preparing the implementation and will begin adopting the system in the near future in their offices worldwide and onboard the MOL own operated fleet (+/- 300 vessels).

The software incorporates a training system that allows seafarers to take their own training program when they are onboard a vessel or on leave. Additional software can be introduced as need arises. The goal of the system is to upgrade the skills of MOL's seafarers and reinforce operating safety.

*Computer based training (CBT) or E-learning, is acknowledged as an effective tool for seafarers onboard and ashore to train at their own pace, selected training courses, following the MOL Training Matrix*1, related to their rank and selected career path.

The main frame of MOL Group's system will be based on the Seagull Training System (STS). (Seagull systems have been adopted by more than 5,000 vessels around the world).
The software being introduced by the MOL Group will incorporate the Seagull Training Administrator (STA), Seagull Computer Based Training (CBT) programs, MOL custom build CBT's, MOL's unique competence requirement system MOL RankSTEP*2, MOL's specific onshore Training Programs and Videotel's Maritime Training Videos.

In addition, MOL will introduce the Competency Evaluation System (CES) program in MOL Group ship management companies, Manning companies, and MOL Training Centers all over the world. This software program allows more effective evaluation and management of MOL's seafarer's knowledge and competence.
