March 02, 2011

TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) today announced the completion of the MOL Safety Conference 2011 in Tokyo, Mumbai, and Zadar (Croatia). Another event is slated for March 16 in Manila.

MOL has hosted the conferences in its main seafarer source nations every year since 2007 to explain the MOL Group's measures to ensure safe operation and encourage an open exchange of information and ideas about those measures.

On February 16 in Tokyo, about 70 seafarers who were on leave took part in the conference. About 90 personnel attended the event in Mumbai on February 22 and about 120 were on hand in Zadar on March 1.

The event opened with a strong message from MOL President Koichi Muto, who said, "Safe operation supports development of our fleet, stated in the current midterm management plan "GEAR UP! MOL", and our goal is to become "the world leader in safe operation". To achieve this goal with enhancing credibility and trust from our customers, I hope all seafarers on the front lines of safe operation will be motivated to further enhance the safety of the MOL Group fleet. Senior Managing Executive Officer Soichi Hiratsuka (also Director-General of the Safety Operations Headquarters) and other MOL executives also participated in the conferences, and actively exchanged opinions with seafarers through presentations, group discussions covering marine incidents, and so on, strengthening their resolve to ensure the safety of vessel operations.
