TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Takeshi Hashimoto; Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo) today announced that, it teamed up with GPFinc. (Note 1) (President: Hiroaki Ikeda; Headquarters: Tondabayashi-shi, Osaka) to host a tour of a GPF-operated plant factory (Note 2) in Minato-ku, Tokyo, for students from two local elementary and junior high schools. The objective of the tour was to promote understanding of agriculture and dietary education among local elementary and junior high school students by actually guiding them through the plant factory and providing them an opportunity to experience how hydroponic cultivation works and get a close-up look at the cutting-edge technology of plant factories. Along with GPF, MOL has been working to demonstrate vegetable production that leverages advantages in efficiency and safety, such as planned productivity and pesticide-free cultivation.

(Note 1) GPFinc. is a plant factory manufacturer that offers design, construction, and consulting services related to plant factories. The company also operates a vegetable production and sales business for restaurants and general consumers using its own factories.

(Note 2) The term "facility horticulture" refers to the cultivation of plants in a facility by controlling the plant growth environment (light, temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide concentration, nutrients, moisture, and so on). Plant factories are cultivation facilities for year-round, planned production of vegetables and other plants through advanced environmental control and growth forecasting based on environmental and growth monitoring.
