TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Takeshi Hashimoto) today announced that on November 6, it held an online inauguration ceremony for the "MOL Student Ambassadors."

In this year, 14 elementary and junior high school students were appointed as Student Ambassadors to learn the importance of protecting the richness of the sea and promoting the appeal of the shipping industry, and will be responsible for communicating this information to their peers-the next generation who will create the future.

The ambassadors, who were presented with letters of appointment, spoke of their aspirations, such as one who said, "I felt that the thoughts of the people who transport cargo lead to the safe transport of the cargo. I would like to communicate the importance of marine transport." Another said, "I want to learn about the sea and ships, research the latest technology, and contribute to environmental conservation in the 21st century." Another ambassador commented, "I want to communicate with many people about how interesting ocean transport is by explaining MOL's initiatives and responses to environmental issues."

MOL Chief Environmental Sustainability Officer Tatsuro Watanabe said, "I am very happy to hear your thoughts on the sea and ships and to have you as part of our team. I look forward to seeing more of you in the future," expressing his pleasure and expectations for learning together with the students.

In the future, MOL plans to hold workshops at the Head Office, as well as tours of simulators and actual vessels. Through these events, the ambassadors will deepen their knowledge of the sea and the shipping industry, and play active roles in online work experience events (Note 1) and other activities.

On August 23, nine MOL Student Ambassadors appointed in 2022 participated in an event called "BLUE ACTION MOL with Next Generation: Presentation of Proposal and Creating the Ship of the Future in 2100." In this presentation, Ambassadors used what they have learned over the past year to come up with ideas for the ship of the future and present them. From MOL, Vice President and Executive Officer Toshiaki Tanaka and three others served as judges, and the Ambassadors gave presentations on their ideas and shared their enthusiasm and the event ended successfully as an opportunity to co-create the future with the next generation of leaders.
