"STELLAR SYMPHONY" at sea trial

TOKYO- Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Takeshi Hashimoto) today announced that on February 8, the wood chip carrier STELLAR SYMPHONY with a cargo capacity of 3.6 million-cubic feet, was delivered at Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Imabari Shipbuilding; President: Yukito Higaki; Headquarters: Imabari-shi, Ehime Prefecture). MOL will operate the vessel and transport wood chips for Marusumi Paper Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Tomoyuki Hoshikawa; Headquarters: Shikokuchuo-shi, Ehime Prefecture).

The vessel is equipped with a SOx scrubber and Ballast Water Management System to be in conformity with stricter environmental regulations, and is also equipped with a microplastic recovery system (Note 1). It also has environmentally friendly specifications in line with "MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.1" (Note 2) such as Hybrid Fin (energy-saving equipment to improve propulsion efficiency) which are Imabari Shipbuilding's technologies, Advanced Control for Ecology (ACE) (Note 3), and Propeller Boss Cap Fins (PBCF) (Note 4) in addition to adopting an electronically controlled engine and low-friction ship bottom paint.

MOL continually strives to offer safe and stable wood chip transport service for customers including paper manufacturers around the world while caring for the environment, and contribute to a stable supply of resources.

[ Outline of the vessel ]
LOA 199.96m
Breadth 32.24m
Depth 22.90m
Cargo hold capacity 3,623,708cubic feet

(Note 1)
Microplastic recovery system use a filter with a backwash function, which is part of the Ballast Water Management System, to efficiently collect microplastics that have been repaired in the filter before they are discharged overboard. The system was jointly developed with Miura Industries, Ltd. (President: Daisuke Miyauchi; Head Office: Matsuyama-shi, Ehime Prefecture).

MOL Group will continue to promote initiatives related to Climate Change Countermeasures and Preservation of marine environments, including the installation of microplastic recovery system and PBCF, and will make progress toward the achievement of "MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.1".

(Note 3)
Advanced Control for Ecology (ACE) estimates disturbance effects such as wind and tide by setting the vessel's course direction, and optimally controls the helm to minimize route deviation and reduce the number of course changes required during a voyage, achieving reductions in fuel consumption.
