MOL Takes Delivery of LPG-powered Newbuilding LPG Carrier Energia Grandeur to Serve Total
- Advancing Environmentally Friendly Fleet Development Under the 'BLUE' Series -

February 06, 2026

TOKYO-Mitsi O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Takeshi Hashimoto) today announced the delivery of the newbuilding LPG dual-fuel very large gas carrier (VLGC) Energia Grandeur, ordered by its group company MOL Energia Pte. Ltd. (President: Miki Ogura, Headquarters: Singapore) from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. of South Korea. The delivery took place on January 29 off Mokpo Port in South Korea. The Energia Grandeur will sail under a time charter contract for CSSA Chartering and Shipping Services SA (CSSA), a subsidiary of TotalEnergies.

The newbuild LPG-powered LPG carrier "Energia Grandeur"

MOL is moving ahead with the development of a fleet powered primarily by clean, low impact alternative fuels. As part of this environmentally friendly fleet, the vessels feature a new hull design that blends the corporate color "BLUE," symbolizing the ocean, with "Turquoise," representing the group's environmental initiatives. This design visually expresses the MOL Group Mission: "From the blue oceans, we sustain people's lives and ensure a prosperous future." It reflects the group's strong commitment to realizing a sustainable society.

The Energia Grandeur is a dual fuel vessel that can run on both LPG and heavy oil. Operating on LPG reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 20%, and SOx, PM, and other pollutants by about 90%, compared with heavy oil. The vessel is also designed not only to transport LPG but to carry ammonia as well. Ammonia, which emits no carbon dioxide during combustion, is expected to see significant growth in demand as a next generation clean energy source. In addition, the new vessel is equipped with a shaft generator(note1) to enhance operational efficiency, adopting environmentally conscious specifications that enable further greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions compared with conventional LPG dual fuel VLGCs. Furthermore, a transition linked loan(note2) is utilized for the finance of the Energia Grandeur.

TotalEnergies has built a strong relationship with the MOL Group across multiple fields, including marine fuel trading and long-term charter agreements for LNG carriers and LNG bunkering vessels. This charter agreement will further strengthen the partnership.

The MOL Group positions environmental strategy as a core pillar of its group management plan, "BLUE ACTION 2035." Under the "MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.2," it has set a target of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. Moving forward, the group will continue to pursue this target through concerted group-wide efforts, contributing to the creation of a decarbonized society.
