Educational Cruise on "HANARIA" for Kitakyushu Junior High Students

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (President & CEO: Tsuyoshi Hashimoto; Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter "MOL") announces that its group company, MOL Techno-Trade, Ltd., conducted an experiential cruise on the hydrogen-fueled passenger vessel HANARIA (hereinafter "the vessel") on January 19,2026, with the cooperation of the Seaport and Airport Bureau, City of Kitakyushu.
A total of 41 participants boarded the vessel, including second-year students from Kitakyushu municipal junior high schools and crew members and cadets from the training ship SEIUN MARU operated by the Japan agency of Maritime Education and Training for Seafarers.
The vessel is Japan's first hydrogen-fueled passenger ship, using hydrogen and biodiesel as fuel. It entered service in April 2024 and is currently operated mainly in the Kanmon area (Note 1).
The purpose of this event was to promote interest in the sea and maritime professions, while also helping participants learn about the mechanisms of hydrogen-fueled vessels and initiatives for the future of the oceans through an environmentally friendly cruise.

On the day of the cruise, the weather was favorable, providing ideal conditions with a pleasant sea breeze.
Students shared impressions such as "It's very quiet," and asked questions including, "When was the first hydrogen-powered ship in Japan built?"

The MOL Group will continue to promote educational activities in cooperation with local communities, advancing the development of future maritime talent and co-creation with communities toward the realization of a sustainable society.
