Fostering the Shipping Industry Leaders of Tomorrow: MOL Holds Workshop for MOL Ambassadors

TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Takeshi Hashimoto) today announced that it held a workshop for MOL Ambassadors (Note) , where they learned about ocean shipping and MOL business, at the "Toranomon Empowerment Center 'SANGO'," which MOL opened last year. The workshop has been held every winter and spring vacation since 2022, and this year marks the third event.

The workshop included a tour of SANGO's onboard simulator training facilities and hands-on experience with an educational program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which MOL sponsors. At the end of the workshop, MOL Ambassadors brainstormed ideas for a special exhibition to be held at the "MOL Museum Funeshiru," scheduled to open in Osaka on Saturday, July 19, and exchanged opinions with MOL employees and made presentations to the museum staff. The museum staff will review the exhibition ideas submitted by the MOL Ambassadors and select some as the special exhibition at "Funeshiru".

Comments from workshop participants included, "Through the simulator tour, I was reminded of the important role that each and every seafarer plays," "As a MOL Ambassador, I was able to think a lot about what I could do to make the visitors enjoy the exhibition," "I felt like a dream come true when I heard that the ideas from the workshop could actually be adopted."

As the company implements BLUE ACTION MOL, a sustainable action program that balances corporate growth with a sustainable society, it will continue to promote social contribution activities as expressed by the phrase "BLUE ACTION for ALL." This event is one of these activities corresponding to "next-generation human capital development."

MOL will communicate its role in the shipping industry, which connects the world and continues to support logistics 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, various technologies aimed at solving environmental issues, and its initiatives to realize a sustainable future, to children, who will be the future leaders of the company, and continue its activities to open a prosperous future from the blue oceans.

(Note) The MOL Ambassadors are students who are responsible for learning about the importance of protecting the rich seas and the appeal of the maritime industry and play a role in conveying this to their peers who will create the future. A total of 10 elementary, junior high, and high school students are currently active in the program. For more information, please see the "MOL Information" section below.
