TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Junichiro Ikeda) today announced its joint release, along with Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Mitsui E&S Shipbuilding; President: Tetsuro Koga; Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo), and Weathernews Inc. (President: Chihito Kusabiraki; Headquarters: Chiba-shi, Chiba Prefecture) of its "Fleet Performance" application as part II of MOL's "FOCUS" Project (Note 1) intended to enhance the collection and application of ship's operation data.

In May 2019, MOL released the "Fleet Viewer" ship management tool (Note 2), not only to provide real-time, shore-side monitoring of vessels while underway and maintain safety, but also to allow an immediate response to problems.
"Fleet Performance" will make detailed assessments of vessels' environmental impact and comparative performance, in real time, by grasping and visualizing their performance during operation, with the aim of optimizing performance and ensuring safe operation.

'Fleet Performance' Characteristics

"Fleet Performance" will make full use of vessels' sensor data collected at intervals of several minutes, and analyze it using Mitsui E & S Shipbuilding group's know-how.

This makes it possible to accurately grasp the fleet's in-service performance while taking into account day-to-day sea conditions such as wind, wave and current etc. In addition, the application analyzes the fleet's impact on the environment, allowing for the development of effective maintenance plans, such as cleaning at appropriate times, by determining the degree of fouling on hull surfaces and propellers. It also facilitates performance comparisons among vessels and verification of the effectiveness of energy-saving equipment by presenting a more accurate picture of fleet performance after canceling out the effects of waves and wind while underway.

Proposed future developments in the 'FOCUS' project

Through the FOCUS project, MOL continually strives to expand the development and adoption of applications that use in-service fleet operation data, with the aim of creating applications that grow along with users' needs. The company seeks to offer stress-free transport services with greater safety and reduced environmental impact.
