MOL President & CEO Hashimoto Addresses Company's Entrance Ceremony
- Moving Toward a New Era Together -

April 06, 2021

TOKYO-Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Takeshi Hashimoto) today announced that the company welcomed 57 new employees (new graduates at sea: 20; new graduates on land: 29; career recruits on land: 7; career recruit at sea: 1) on April 1. President & CEO Hashimoto delivered the following message at the entrance ceremony on the same day.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19 among both new and current employees, strict precautions were taken to ensure safe social distancing.

"Everyone, congratulations on joining the company. I appreciate that you joined MOL with commitment even under the highly abnormal conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. And on a personal note, this entrance ceremony is my first job since I became the president, so I am also deeply moved."
"MOL has revised the Group Corporate Mission and Group Vision (Note 1) for the first time in 20 years, and will announce the new Rolling Plan 2021 management plan, so I would like to talk about the background behind these measures."

New MOL Group Corporate Mission/MOL Group Vision

"The MOL Group Corporate Principles and Group Vision have been considered the basis of our ‘multimodal ocean shipping corporate group.' The ocean shipping business remains essential, but at the same time, we see non-ocean shipping fields such as offshore, port/harbor, and real estate businesses growing in importance. So, we decided to establish a new MOL Group Corporate Mission and MOL Group Vision in the hope of redefining ourselves in a way that transcends multimodal ocean shipping."

Rolling Plan 2021 (Initiatives on the Environment)

"In recent years, social awareness of the environment has been changing drastically. While ocean shipping is a key industry supporting the lives of people around the world, this industry is in fact responsible for significant emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). Therefore, with the aim of achieving net zero GHG emissions through our business by 2050, we will earnestly approach ways to improve energy efficiency and develop and launch vessels that use alternative fuels such as LNG, ammonia, and hydrogen as fuel."
"Your work will support these changes, and I look forward to forging ahead based on ideas that we develop together. Restrictions due to COVID-19 continue, but the virus must end eventually, so let's do our best as we aim for a new normal in the post-COVID-19 era."
