By integrating business and IT infrastructure on a global scale, MOL aims to strengthen collaboration, productivity, governance, and security. Additionally, through the strategic development and optimal global allocation of IT and digital human resources, our goal is to enhance the driving force of global co-creation and digital transformation (DX) by reinforcing both the "IT infrastructure" and "Human Resource" pillars.
MOL is advancing the "Global Digital Platform Project," an initiative to establish and integrate a common digital foundation across more than one hundred group companies worldwide. By consolidating previously fragmented IT environments and data management systems across regions and business units, MOL is building an environment where "the same data and the same systems" can be utilized globally. Through this initiative, MOL aims to enable faster and more transparent decision-making while fostering collaboration that transcends organizational and regional boundaries.
The project focuses on developing a unified global digital platform that strengthens collaboration, productivity, governance, and security. MOL is enhancing seamless file sharing, resource connectivity, and knowledge exchange across the group to provide an integrated collaboration experience. At the same time, MOL is optimizing licenses to improve cost efficiency and promoting the use of generative AI, data analytics platforms, robotic process automation (RPA), and low-code tools to streamline operations and improve development productivity.
In addition, MOL is establishing a 24/365 global operational framework and implementing advanced security monitoring capabilities to enhance governance and optimize operations at a global standard. By introducing industry-leading cybersecurity functions, MOL is strengthening security monitoring, security operations, and incident response capabilities to build a consistent and high-level cybersecurity posture across the group.
Through these efforts, MOL is improving operational efficiency and productivity while providing a secure and optimized digital environment. By accelerating the utilization of AI and data, MOL aims to further enhance the profitability and competitiveness of our entire group.
The objectives of enhancing IT Governance is to ensure Group-wide governance across all defined management domains and to achieve the three Group-wide objectives.
The MOL Group is promoting initiatives to enhance its IT governance framework across the Group. As generative AI technologies evolve rapidly and the importance of data utilization in business continues to rise, there is increasing demand to realize a globally efficient and highly reliable IT environment. In response, the Group aims to "Strengthen IT defense", "Establish foundation for digital transformation" and "Optimize operation and uplift IT utilization".
From FY2024, under the leadership of the CDIO, the Group established the IT Governance Office (IGO) as a key initiative to enhance the existing IT governance framework and to implement the global IT governance across more than 180 Group companies. IT governance is exercised across the management areas defined in our policies and processes: IT Strategy Management; IT Investment, Budget and Cost Management; IT Program and Project Management; IT Procurement and Vendor Management; System Development and IT Asset Management; Data Management; Application Management; IT Infrastructure Management; Cybersecurity Management; IT Talent Management; and AI Management. Based on the policies and guidelines formulated by the IGO, the target state is to ensure the initiatives in each domain are executed in accordance with the policies and processes, required objectives are achieved, and consistent operations are embedded across the Group.
While the IGO defines the Group-wide IT strategy and common principles, the "Regional Control" functions have been established in the six regions: Japan, the Americas, South Asia and the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Oceania, Europe and Africa, and East Asia. Under this structure "Federated model (indirect management)" is adopted to align regional IT strategies that reflect local requirements. In parallel, "Centralized model (direct management)" is applied to the management areas requiring enterprise-wide optimization and transparency, including Cybersecurity, Data Management, and IT Investment visibility.
In addition, ServiceNow has been introduced under IGO leadership as a core IT governance management tool to visualize IT investments and project information. Furthermore, IT Roundtable Conferences are conducted to reinforce "vertical governance" across Headquarters, Regional Control, and Group companies, while simultaneously promoting "horizontal" information sharing and collaboration within and across regions.
Going forward, the Group will further enhance IT governance to ensure consistent execution of its IT strategy and to achieve enterprise-wide investment optimization.
To clearly communicate the MOL Group's approach to "people"-the colleagues working across the Group worldwide-to internal and external stakeholders, the MOL Group has established the "HC (Human Capital) Vision & Action." As our human capital initiatives transition from a transformation phase to an execution phase, we are supporting the goal set out in HC Action Phase 2-maximizing the power of people and organizations aligned with business strategy-through digital transformation (DX), including the introduction of talent management and employee experience solutions.
To realize technology‑driven talent management, the MOL Group launched SAP SuccessFactors®, a global talent management system that centrally manages human capital information across the Group, in April 2024. By integrating organizational data with employees' experience and skills, the system promotes greater visibility of talent, optimal placement of the right people in the right roles, and the advancement of self‑directed career development.
In addition, we are developing "change leaders" across all employees who can drive digital‑enabled transformation. Furthermore, we are promoting initiatives both in Japan and overseas to improve productivity through the effective use of generative AI, strengthen talent development through collaboration between headquarters and group companies, and secure highly skilled talent on a global scale.
By enhancing the capabilities of people and organizations through DX, the MOL Group aims to support sustainable growth and enhance its corporate value.
