Time-series Forecast Using AI
The MOL Group, MOL Information Systems, Ltd., and Yokohama National University are conducting a joint study on "analysis and practical use of data for ocean shipping."
The study is aimed at developing the capability to analyze data related to economics and maritime affairs and forecast the ocean shipping market and bunker prices with greater accuracy by using artificial intelligence (AI), in cooperation with Professor Tomoharu Nagao of the university's Graduate School of Environment and Information Sciences.

Study on Optimization of Shipping Operations
MOL and MOL Information Systems, Ltd. are cooperating to study the use of mathematical optimization, an underlying technology of artificial intelligence (AI), for ocean shipping operations, along with Associate Professor Shunji Umetani of the Osaka University Graduate School of Information Science and Technology. The study aims to help MOL enhance operational efficiency and offer stress-free services from the customers' viewpoint with an advanced formula for developing car carrier allocation and cargo loading plans.

ICT for Efficiency
The MOL Group strives to improve efficiency through the use and application of ICT. The objective is to make our executives and employees more productive through proactive measures to enhance operational efficiency.
Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
The MOL Group took the initiative in introducing RPA to increase efficiency in routine tasks. This leads to higher employee productivity by reducing inputting mistakes and reducing the burden on those in charge of operations, so they can make more effective use of their time.
Digitalization of Approval works
MOL introduced the MOL Document Signing System (MDSS) to digitalize the approval process. By speeding up internal procedures, the system improves operational efficiency and speeds up decision-making. In addition, digitalization of documents improves searching efficiency and reduces the amount of space needed to store documents.

The MOL Group is a global "One MOL" team and offers high-quality services in various fields. Below, we introduce examples of ICT strategies aimed at improving the "One MOL" team strength.
ICT Infrastructure Development Supports 'Workstyle Reforms'
MOL introduced Office365 tools including "Microsoft Teams" and "Share Point Online" as its ICT infrastructure foundation supporting workstyle reforms. Use of these tools allows more flexible workstyles and increases efficiency, setting the stage for higher productivity and creativity. We also have introduced measures to allow employees to work remotely (teleworking) since August 2017.
ICT for Enhancement of Governance
The MOL Group seeks to improve ICT literacy among group executives and employees, and reinforce risk management and security, and therefore works to enhance ICT governance in a proactive way and on a continuous basis.
ICT Governance Organizational Structure
Each MOL Group company appoints a Chief Information Officer (CIO) with the objective of promoting our ICT strategy throughout the organization in a cross-sectional manner. We also regularly hold "MOL Group ICT Executive Meetings" to share information on basic policies regarding group-wide ICT security, ICT development plans, and enhancement of governance.
The MOL Rules of Conduct stipulate compliance with confidentiality standards and respect of intellectual properties. In addition, proper management of electronic information handled by the group and protection of confidential electronic information are stipulated in the "Electronic Information Security Guidelines," reflecting our commitment to enhancing security to prevent leaks of corporate information and protect information from fraudulent access from inside or outside the company. Furthermore, we established an internal computer security incident response team (MOL-CSIRT), and became a member of the Nippon CSIRT Association in February 2017, striving to reinforce security throughout the group, including overseas subsidiaries.
MOL regularly provides e-learning and presents lectures on data analysis as part of its in-house training program for new and young employees, with the objective of improving ICT literacy and awareness of information security among our group executives and employees. We regularly hold ICT learning workshops as a bottom-up approach to promoting a solid understanding of the basics of ICT and sharing information on the latest trends in the field.
